A LETTER FROM OUR PRESIDENT AND FOUNDER

I would like to share a story with you. I was putting together an annual holiday toy and gift drive to help children living with HIV and AIDS.  A friend referred me to a home called The Incarnation Children's Center in Washington Heights. It was there I met an amazing young boy named David who was HIV positive and also had Cerebral Palsy .

I learned that David, who was in need of a new motorized wheelchair had been denied his request from Medicaid, although all the necessary paperwork had been submitted three different times.  I was outraged. I immediately began to think what I could do to get him this much needed wheelchair. On February 5, 2005 I produced DIVAPALOOZA 2 a fund-raising event where we raised the money for David's wheelchair. 

I knew that David was not the only child in this similar situation and in need of help, so I decided to start my own non-profit organization called Help Is On The Way Today. The organization was founded to help and assist children, youths and teens in the tri-state area who are living with HIV and AIDS through our work and outreach.  In the first three years, Help Is On The Way Today has raised more than $100,000.00 for this cause.

OUR WISH LIST

Help Is On The Way Today not only needs money to continue the work we do. We also are in need of goods and services to continue to help children and young adults living with HIV. To the right is a list of the top items we are in need of to meet our commitments.

 

  • Gift items to be used for raffles and/or as auction items at Help Is On The Way today benefits.  We hold over 14 unique events a year so the need here is great.
  • Gift certificates to be used for Help Is On The Way Today benefits as in the above.
  • Back packs and school supplies to be collected throughout the year to be disseminated as part of our Annual Back To School Backpack drive (held in August and September) which helps our kids return to school with the tools they need to be successful.
  • New unwrapped children's toys collected throughout the year to be disseminated to various children's homes and hospitals housing HIV positive kids as part of Annual Toy Drive held every December.
